I grew up in Ashwaubenon, learning solid values centered on God, family, friends, hard work, and volunteering. High school classes and activities spurred an interest in sociology and psychology, so I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin -Oshkosh.

Following college, I returned to the Green Bay area to begin my career as a Social Worker in a nursing home. Having had close relationships with the elders in my family, and a sincere belief that older adults deserve good quality care, kindness, and respect, working with older adults was a natural fit.

After over 8 years, I joined the WI Board on Aging and Long-Term Care as an Ombudsman. This broadened my advocacy efforts as I served individuals receiving home and community-based long-term care in a multi-county region, as well as advocating for improved regulations and laws impacting older adults.

My career serving older adults was challenging and rewarding. It provided me with many opportunities to be helpful and serve people. In turn, I learned from them about life. Each individual impacted and fueled my passion to advocate for clients’ rights. My hope is we become a society that increasingly values our elders.

Following retirement, I attended an informational program presented by Dr. Lulloff from the Brain Center. After, when expressing my gratitude for the information, we discussed a fall that I had taken several years back resulting in a Traumatic Brain Injury. That discussion leads to an invitation to become a volunteer. I accepted the invitation, and feel honored to volunteer for this valuable organization, working with dedicated people and serving individuals who can benefit from brain health information.

I believe the 6 pillars of brain health are important lifestyle choices for everyone. A focus on the pillars, making relatively minor changes, can have a huge impact on brain health and general well-being for anyone.

Besides the Brain Center, I also volunteer for a couple of other organizations and my church. I create stained glass art, enjoy classes through UWGB Lifelong Learning Institute, travel when I’m able, and most importantly, cherish spending time with family and friends.
